Food Access: Local Innovations at the Heart of Community Building

April 29, 8:30 – 10:30 AM | Food Literacy Center, 401A McClatchy Way

Equitably growing communities ensure that people have access to the resources they need and value—including convenient access to healthy, affordable food. Join ULI’s Building Healthy and Equitable Places Committee at the Food Literacy Center for a panel discussion showcasing innovative programs and organizations across the Sacramento region that are transforming food access in underserved communities, supporting healthy placemaking, and catalyzing economic development.

Food access varies widely depending on where people live and their income levels. Yet pioneering leaders in Sacramento are meeting this challenge with creative, community‑driven approaches. Hear firsthand how organizations are putting good ideas into action—by establishing centralized community food kitchens that connect local farms with households in need, creating entrepreneurship and workforce opportunities for small food businesses, and developing culturally responsive food distribution models.

These initiatives span diverse sectors but share a unified goal: expanding equitable food access for all—a goal that is essential to the Sacramento region’s continued growth and vitality.
